A novella-sized work of historical fiction originally published in the 1870s as a dime novel and then re-published in 1908 as a nickel weekly, Iron Hand, Chief of the Tory League; or, The Double Face is number 8 of the beloved Beadle’s Frontier Series.

This was the first one that takes place during the American Revolution, and involves romance and mistaken identity between twin brothers who fight on opposite sides.  The story takes place in the Lake George/Lake Champlain area of New York, an area that was hotly contested during the War of Independence, with land, towns, and forts around the lakes changing hands between the British and the Colonials regularly.

At more than 30,000 words, this work of fiction, besides being an interesting and fun read, gives the reader a taste of what the masses were reading in the late 19th and early 20th century time period.
